Plant and pet lovers, beware!
Whether they look good in your living room or your garden, whether they have medicinal properties or not, the plants in your home or outdoors can be real hazards for your pets.
More than 700 plants contain allergens and can irritate your pets through contact or inhalation. A German study revealed that plant poisoning is the 2nd most common cause of poisoning in our pets, before mushrooms and chocolate!
The effects are multiple but can seriously affect your pet; beware when your dog or cat presents one or more of the following symptoms
- Excessive salivation
- Redness in the ears
- Itching
- Swelling
- Swollen lips
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Abdominal pain
- Heart rhythm disturbances
- Asphyxia
- Convulsions
If your pet shows any symptoms of concern, don't wait a second and contact your veterinarian. You can rinse the affected areas with clean water and prevent your pet from licking itself.
To prevent the risk, we invite you to read the non-exhaustive list of toxic plants below. Opt for other varieties or put them well away from your furry ones!
